A class devoted to exploring the process of creating art that comes from the ideas related to the emergence of abstraction in painting beginning with the Abstract Expressionist School in New York. We will explore the artists responsible for the varied expressions, ideas and working methods that have resulted from the emergence of Abstraction.
Students are expected to work independently and to bring in new works each week for critiques. The goal is to help artist’s develop a body of work that will form the basis for their studio practice. From time to time individual and group works will be put together for a show. October 2005 marked the first art show of our current group titled “ Common Ground “ an exhibition of paintings held at the Studio Gallery.
